Granddad sailed stormy seas

Granddad sailed stormy seas

whence he landed in Australia and took his leave

no more a lackey for a king who took his land

then sent him too Van Deimans land

the Viking line     that Granddad of mine

My fathers faded eyes never saw England’s fair shore

As a young man he stood tall

took on all comers  one and all

Ice blue eyes and wave in his hair of complexion fair

Though he never saw England’s bonny shore

he did his duty and fought in her wars

he was true blue to a queen he never knew

now all good Vikings carry the scars of battle

off to Valhalla    the wind blows hard     sabres rattle

It’s so nice sitting back three generations on

living in a sunburnt country tea and scone
